Series (Getting Personal with Jesus)
God Can Heal Your Troubled Heart (October 26, 2008)
(NIV Judges 6:1-24)
All of us desire to have a life that is filled with happiness and free from pain. But, reality tells us that we have to face difficulties and obstacles. All of us have personal struggles and battles that can create pain, fear and doubts in our hearts. These life’s troubles drives us to long for ways that will give us peace and put an end to our troubled heart.
In facing our difficulties, the main issue is not the problem that we are fighting but the strength of our hearts and soundness of our mind in dealing with our personal battles. God is able to provide us the peace that we seek even when we are in the midst of troubles.
Let us understand that…
Jehovah Shalom means “God is all sufficient to give me peace.” Shalom means peace or wholeness, a peace that comes from within that can only be given by God.
We must have first peace with God or be reconciled with God through repentance and surrender, then the peace of God will follow. Peace of God provides strength and inner significance to our hearts and to our selves.
Life without God is a life without peace, a result of our personal sin and not acknowledging God. It can create failure mentality, insecurities (incorrect evaluation of self ) or shame .
(Judges 6:1-2,6; Isaiah 59:1-2 )
Is a cycle of fruitless, unproductive and meaningless effort to overcome recurring problems.
(Judges 6:3-5)
Leads to overwhelming bondages that brings ruin in our lives. (Judges 6:6)
Brings trouble to get our attention to seek Him. (Judges 6:6-7)
God is more interested in strengthening our hearts and providing us a sound mind than taking away the physical conflicts that we undergo. Having a strong heart and a sound mind enables us to respond properly when we are confronted by difficulties.
God’s peace is different from the world’s peace (see John 14:27). True peace is not found in positive thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is in control.
NAS John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Our citizenship in Christ’s Kingdom is sure, our destiny is set, and we can have victory over sin. Let God’s peace guard your heart against anxiety.
Peace is possible when we…
Make God as our source of significance and contentment by having a surrendered life to Him. (Isaiah 57:15-21)
Depend on God in all situations through prayer. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Pursue holy living and pure thinking. (Isaiah 48:17-18)
Love God’s Word by meditating and applying it in our daily living. (Psalms 119:165)
